Vehicle access control

What is vehicle access and entrance automation?

Vehicle access and entrance automation is the set of barriers, gates, identification devices and software that decides who can enter a site, and then opens the way automatically. Instead of a guard lifting a barrier by hand and writing number plates in a register, the entrance recognises authorised vehicles and people, opens for them in seconds and keeps a digital record of every movement.

A complete system combines physical control, such as boom barriers, sliding gates, bollards and road blockers, with identification technology such as ANPR cameras and RFID long-range readers. Detection loops and traffic lights make each lane safe, while speed gates and turnstiles control people on foot.

For housing societies, corporate campuses, hospitals and government buildings in Pakistan, this means shorter queues at peak hours, fewer disputes at the gate and a security team that can focus on exceptions rather than routine.

An automated entrance identifies each vehicle or person, checks their access rights, opens the barrier or gate for authorised users, keeps everyone else out, and logs every entry and exit.

How it works

How an automated vehicle entrance works

Watch one authorised vehicle arrive. The loop detects it, the ANPR camera reads the plate, the system checks access rights, the light turns green, the barrier lifts, and the entry is logged.

Animated example of an automated vehicle entrance A car arrives at a boom barrier and stops over a detection loop. An ANPR camera reads its number plate and shows it as authorised. The traffic light turns green, the barrier arm lifts, the car drives through, the arm closes and the entry appears in the access log. 1. DetectA loop or sensor detects the vehicle at the barrier and wakes the lane.
  2. IdentifyANPR reads the plate, or an RFID tag is read from the windscreen, and rights are checked.
  3. OpenThe light turns green and the barrier or gate opens, then closes safely behind the vehicle.
  4. LogThe entry is recorded with time, plate and lane, ready for reports and investigations.

Vehicle identification and visitors

Know who is at the gate before it opens.

  • ANPR (automatic number plate recognition)

Cameras read number plates in real time, open for registered vehicles, flag blacklisted ones and store an image of every entry, including Pakistani plate formats.

  • RFID long-range readers and vehicle tags

Windscreen tags or cards are read from several metres away, so residents and staff drive through without stopping, winding down a window or pressing a remote.

  • Visitor vehicle management

Pre-registered visitor passes, guard-desk registration, CNIC and plate capture, and time-limited access, with a full record of who visited, when and whom they met.

Identification

ANPR vs RFID long-range readers

Both let authorised vehicles in without a guard. Many sites use both: RFID for fast, hands-free resident lanes and ANPR for visitors, records and security.

LEA-2468 Plate matched

ANPR: the camera reads the plate

No tags to issue. Every vehicle is identified by its number plate, with a photo stored for each entry.

  • Best for visitors, blacklists and investigations
  • Works with vehicles that have never visited
  • Needs clean, standard plates and good camera placement
up to several metres

RFID: the reader detects a tag

A small tag on the windscreen is read as the car approaches, so the barrier is already opening when it arrives.

  • Best for residents, staff and fleet vehicles
  • Very fast, reliable in rain, dust and at night
  • Each vehicle needs a registered tag

FAQs

Vehicle access and entrance automation FAQs

Answers to the questions we hear most from society administrators, facility managers and security heads.

What is included in a vehicle access control system?

A typical system includes a physical barrier such as a boom barrier, gate, bollard or road blocker; an identification method such as ANPR cameras, RFID long-range readers, remotes or cards; vehicle detection loops and traffic lights for lane safety; and access control software that manages users, rules and records.

How much does entrance automation cost in Pakistan?

The cost depends on the number of lanes, the type of barrier or gate, the identification technology (ANPR, RFID or both), the security level, civil work and cabling distances, and any integration with CCTV or parking systems. ASG Systems provides a detailed quotation after a free site survey.

Which is better for a housing society, ANPR or RFID?

Most societies use both. RFID windscreen tags give residents fast, hands-free entry that works reliably day and night, while ANPR cameras identify visitors, record every plate and flag blacklisted vehicles. Together they reduce queues and improve security at the main gate.

What is the difference between a road blocker, bollards and a tyre killer?

A road blocker is a wedge that rises from the road to physically stop a vehicle at a gate. Bollards are posts that rise or stay fixed to protect an area or opening. A tyre killer uses spikes to puncture the tyres of a vehicle entering the wrong way or forcing entry. High-security sites often combine all three.

What is the price of a boom barrier in Pakistan?

Boom barrier prices in Pakistan depend on the arm length, opening speed, duty cycle, brand and accessories such as loops, RFID readers or ANPR cameras. A basic residential barrier costs far less than a high-speed, heavy-duty barrier for a busy society or car park. We recommend the right model and share an exact quotation after a free site survey.

Do you install ANPR and RFID systems for housing societies in DHA and Bahria Town?

Yes. We install ANPR cameras, RFID long-range readers, boom barriers and tyre killers for society gates across Pakistan, including DHA and Bahria Town communities, with resident tag enrolment and visitor management.

Will barriers and gates work during load shedding?

Yes. We recommend battery backup or UPS for barriers, gates and controllers so they keep operating during outages, and every system includes a safe manual release for emergencies.

Can you automate our existing gate or barrier?

In most cases, yes. Existing sliding and swing gates can be fitted with suitable motors and controllers, and existing lanes can be upgraded with ANPR, RFID readers, loops and traffic lights after we check the condition of the structure.

Can the system integrate with CCTV, parking management and turnstiles?

Yes. Vehicle lanes, speed gates and turnstiles can share one access control platform, and can be integrated with CCTV, parking management, intercoms and fire alarm systems so the whole site is managed from one control room.

How long does installation take?

A single automated gate or barrier can often be installed in one to three days. Multi-lane society entrances and high-security sites with civil work usually take a few weeks. We confirm the timeline in the project plan after the site survey.
