The basics

What is a bollard?

A bollard is a short, strong post that stops vehicles from entering an area while still letting people walk through. Bollards protect building fronts, pedestrian zones, shop windows, gates and parking areas from vehicles, whether by accident or on purpose.

An automatic (retractable) bollard rises out of the ground to block the road and lowers flush with the surface to let authorised vehicles pass. It works with a controller, a power unit, and an identification device such as a remote, RFID reader, plate recognition camera or push-button at the guard room.

For the highest-risk sites, crash-rated bollards are designed and tested to stop a vehicle at speed. We help you choose the right type for your risk level, traffic and budget.

How it works

How automatic bollards work

A simple, fast sequence keeps the entrance closed to everyone except authorised vehicles.

1

Vehicle arrives

A detection loop or camera senses the vehicle at the entrance.

2

Identification

RFID, plate recognition, remote or the guard confirms the vehicle is allowed.

3

Bollards lower

The bollards retract flush with the road and the light turns green.

4

Bollards rise

Once the vehicle has passed, the bollards rise again and the entrance is secure.

Types

Types of bollards we supply

From everyday pedestrian protection to high-security vehicle denial.

Automatic retractable bollards

Rise and lower at the push of a button or by access control.

  • Hydraulic or electro-mechanical
  • Remote, RFID or plate recognition
  • LED top lights

Semi-automatic bollards

Lowered by hand or key, rise automatically with a gas spring.

  • No power supply needed
  • Lower cost
  • Good for occasional access

Fixed bollards

Permanent posts that keep vehicles out of pedestrian areas.

  • Building fronts and walkways
  • Steel or stainless steel
  • Reflective bands

Removable bollards

Locked into a ground sleeve, removed when wider access is needed.

  • Emergency or service access
  • Lockable
  • Flush sleeve when removed

  • Manual releaseLets staff lower the bollards during a power failure or emergency.
  • Emergency fast riseRaises the bollards in seconds when the guard presses the emergency button.
  • Access control integrationWorks with RFID, plate recognition, remotes, intercoms and boom barriers.
  • Drainage and sealingFoundations designed for rain and flooding so the bollards keep working.

FAQs

Bollards FAQs

What is the price of bollards in Pakistan?

The price depends on the type (fixed, removable, semi-automatic, automatic or crash-rated), the number of bollards, the drive type, the access control and the civil work at your site. ASG Systems offers a free site survey and a detailed quotation for your exact entrance.

What is the difference between fixed and automatic bollards?

Fixed bollards stay in place permanently and keep vehicles out of an area. Automatic bollards rise and lower so authorised vehicles can pass while the area stays protected the rest of the time.

Do automatic bollards work during a power failure?

Yes. Automatic bollards include a manual release so staff can lower them, and they can be connected to a backup power supply.

Can bollards stop a vehicle that is trying to force its way in?

Crash-rated high-security bollards are designed and tested to stop a vehicle at speed. Standard bollards are for everyday protection and traffic control.

Can bollards work with RFID or number plate recognition?

Yes. Automatic bollards can be operated by remote, RFID tags, plate recognition cameras, intercoms or a push-button at the guard room.

Do you provide installation and maintenance?

Yes. ASG Systems handles the site survey, civil work, installation, testing, training and maintenance with its own teams across Pakistan.
