Are X-ray baggage scanners safe?
Yes. Baggage scanners have shielded tunnels and lead curtains, and the X-ray is only on while an item is inside, so radiation outside the machine is extremely low and safe for operators and visitors.
How does a walk-through metal detector work?
The gate creates a magnetic field between its side panels. When a person carrying metal walks through, the field changes and the gate alarms. Multi-zone gates show where on the body the metal is, from head to ankle.
Is a walk-through gate safe for people with pacemakers?
Walk-through gates use low-intensity magnetic fields. As a precaution, people with pacemakers or other medical implants can ask for a manual or hand-held check instead of walking through the gate.
Why do we need a hand-held metal detector if we have a gate?
When the gate alarms, a hand-held metal detector finds exactly which item caused it, so the check is fast and respectful. Hand-held detectors are also used at events and entrances where a gate is not practical.
What is an under-vehicle inspection system?
It is a camera system set into the road that captures a full image of a vehicle’s undercarriage as it drives over, so guards can spot hidden objects without using mirrors. It is often combined with number plate recognition and boom barriers.
