Overview
Executive Summary
Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) is one of Pakistan’s largest and most security-conscious university campuses, with an extensive open boundary surrounding its academic blocks, hostels and residential staff areas. In 2015, LUMS engaged ASG Systems Pakistan to design and install a high voltage electric fence covering the full length of the campus boundary.
ASG Systems Pakistan delivered a 2.54 kilometer high voltage electric fence, divided into 12 independently monitored zones, so that any breach, cut or fault anywhere along the boundary is instantly reported to a central control panel with the exact zone identified.
The brief
The Challenge
A campus the size of LUMS has a long, irregular perimeter bordering public roads, residential neighbourhoods and open ground on multiple sides:
- Manual patrols and boundary walls alone leave gaps in real-time awareness along a 2.5+ km perimeter.
- An intrusion attempt could go unnoticed until reported by a patrol or camera operator.
- Intrusion had to be deterred at the boundary itself.
- Security needed immediate, zone-level visibility of the whole fence line from one control point.
What we delivered
The Solution: 2.54 km Electric Fence with 12-Zone Monitoring
ASG Systems Pakistan designed and installed a zoned high voltage electric fence around the LUMS campus, built around three components.
Component 01
High Voltage Perimeter Electric Fence — 2.54 km
ASG Systems Pakistan designed and installed 2.54 kilometers of high voltage electric fencing along the LUMS campus boundary, mounted to deter and detect any attempt to climb or breach the perimeter.

Component 02
12-Zone Monitoring & Control Panel
The full fence line was divided into 12 independently monitored zones, mapped and labelled on the control panel, so security staff can immediately identify which section of the boundary has triggered an alarm or lost continuity, instead of searching the entire perimeter.
Component 03
Merlin Energizer & Power Supply
The system is driven by a Merlin Electric Fence 1.4 Joule energizer paired with a Merlin cooling and control unit, backed by a Sage 12V DC 3A regulated power supply and dedicated surge protection to keep the fence line powered reliably in all weather conditions.
How we did it
Implementation Approach
- 1Full boundary survey of the LUMS campus perimeter and mapping of the fence line into 12 logical security zones.
- 2Installation of 2.54 km of high voltage electric fencing along the mapped boundary.
- 3Installation of the Merlin 1.4 Joule energizer and zone-monitoring control panel, labelled to match the 12-zone layout.
- 4Installation of the Sage regulated power supply and surge protection devices to safeguard the system’s electronics.
- 5Testing of each individual zone for continuity and alarm response before full system handover to campus security.
Outcome
Results & Impact
The completed installation gave LUMS automated, zone-level perimeter monitoring:
- 2.54 km of the LUMS campus boundary brought under continuous, automated perimeter monitoring.
- Any breach or fault is now pinpointed to one of 12 zones in real time, instead of requiring a manual search of the entire perimeter.
- A physical and electronic deterrent added along the full boundary length, reducing reliance on manual patrols alone.
- A single, centralized control panel giving campus security a clear, at-a-glance view of perimeter status.
FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions
How long is the electric fence installed at LUMS?
ASG Systems Pakistan installed 2.54 kilometers of high voltage perimeter electric fencing around the LUMS campus in Lahore, divided into 12 monitored security zones.
What year was the LUMS perimeter security system installed?
The project was completed in 2015.
What equipment powers the LUMS electric fence system?
The system runs on a Merlin Electric Fence 1.4 Joule energizer with a zone-monitoring control panel, backed by a Sage 12V DC regulated power supply and dedicated surge protection for the fence line.
How many zones does the LUMS perimeter fence monitor?
The perimeter is divided into 12 independently monitored zones, each reporting status to a central control panel so security staff can pinpoint any breach or fault to a specific section of the boundary.
Need perimeter security for your campus or facility?
ASG Systems Pakistan designs and installs high voltage electric fences, zone-based perimeter monitoring and complete boundary security systems for universities, corporate campuses and industrial sites across Pakistan.
